Anatomy & Physiology
The body systems of humans and animals are used as examples of systems necessary for the growth and maintenance of life. These systems are studied in terms of their general structures and functions in living things. Emphasis is placed on the evolutionary sequence of particular organs, tissues and functions so the student can grasp the concept of homology and the evidence by which scientists unite organisms into evolutionary groups. The biochemical functions of human systems are covered in relation to human pathologies and wellness.

This course is deliberately designed to integrate the arts majors at SCPA with the academic content of the Anatomy/Physiology course. Emphasis is also placed on content that is important to the AP Biology class (which may be taken concurrently). Semester 1 will focus on the structure (anatomy) of the human body, Semester 2 will focus on the function (physiology) of the human body.
Each semester is broken into 8 two-week units, followed by a culminating project tying together all 8 units. Each unit will feature an artistic aspect, based on one of the arts majors at SCPA.

Each unit (16) will require the successful completion of an arts based project. Quizzes will be administered after units 2 and 6, tests will be given after units 4 and 8 (each semester). A midterm and a final, in addition to a culminating project that integrates arts and academics, will be given at the end of each semester.
